Terrance Simien is an American Zydeco musician, vocalist and song writer born in Louisiana. He and his band won the Grammy Award for Best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album for 2007.
Simien is from one of the earliest Creole families documented to have settled the Mallet area of Landry Parish. He was introduced to music via the piano at home, the Catholic Church choir and in school band programs where he played trumpet.
While in his teens he taught himself to play accordion and formed his first band Terrance Simien & The Mallet Playboys, and began to play the regional zydeco club and church hall circuit. At the age of 20 Simien was one of only two young zydeco artists leading a band and performing his indigenous zydeco roots music. This was a pivotal time in zydeco music history since the pioneers of the genre were aging and the music was in jeopardy of dying off without the critical presence of emerging artists perpetuating the traditions.
Simien and his band have toured internationally, presenting over 5000 live performances in more than 40 countries, and released dozens of solo recordings and collaborations. He has shared studio and stage with the likes of Paul Simon, Dr. John, The Meters, Marcia Ball, Stevie Wonder, Robert Palmer and the roots rockers Los Lobos when their "La Bamba" was a Top 10 radio hit. He has appeared on screen and contributed to the soundtracks of multiple movie feature and television films and commercials.
His music is set to appear in the Disney film, The Princess and the Frog, set in the French Quarter of New Orleans, featuring authentic Louisiana music scored by Randy Newman. His "Creole for Kidz" (education performances) have reached 200,000 students, parents and teachers in more than 20 states, Mali, Paraguay, Canada and Australia. than 20 states, Mali, Paraguay, Canada and Australia. than 20 states, Mali, Paraguay, Canada and Australia.
Terrance is considered to be one of the most gifted vocalists, engaging performers and innovative recording artists in American roots music.

The line-up of Punch Brothers - whose name is taken from the Mark Twain short story, Punch, Brothers, Punch! - is formidable. Chris Thile released the first of five solo albums when he was just thirteen and, by the time he was 20, he was attracting a following among pop, country, and alternative-rock audiences as a member of the Grammy Award-winning Nickel Creek. A Washington Post critic recently said Thile "may well be the most virtuosic American ever to play the mandolin." His equally youthful, prodigiously gifted band-mates are among the most in-demand performers in the worlds of bluegrass, folk, and traditional music. ... more details >>

March 5, 2010
Friday - 7:00 PM & 9:30 PM
Price (fees not included):

Born the daughter of musicians in Rockport, Massachusetts, Cole grew up singing for fun; American songbooks, traditional folksongs, Christmas carols, a capella harmonies. While finding kindred spirits in records, she became a fixture in her school musicals, which catapulted her toward a scholarship for the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she studied jazz singing and improvisation.
In 1993, Peter Gabriel asked her to join his Secret World Tour, after hearing Cole's Imago debut, "Harbinger." Throughout 1994-6, Cole toured America extensively, building a foundation of support that then embraced her 1997 album "This Fire." It became a breakthrough smash yielding the hits, "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone?" and "I Don't Want to Wait" (which was used as the theme song to the hit WB show Dawson's Creek), and the 1997 Grammy win for Best New Artist. In 1999, she released her third, spiritually soul-influenced album "Amen."
From today's perspective, she has created her finest album: tender, tough, older, wiser...Cole steers her way through the manifold experiences of an adult American woman who has seen much, lost much, gained much, and yet has regained her innocence. It feels like the work of a woman who is in the right place at the right time.

Suzanne Vega

April 17, 2010
Saturday - 7:00 PM & 9:30 PM
Price (fees not included):
- $39.00 (Myre River Room - All Seats)
Widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk-music revival of the early 1980s when, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, she sang what has been labeled contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world's best-known halls. In performances devoid of outward drama that nevertheless convey deep emotion, Vega sings in a distinctive, clear vibrato-less voice that has been described as "a cool, dry sandpaper- brushed near-whisper" and as "plaintive but disarmingly powerful." Hits include "Luka" and "Tom's Diner."
Note: These performances will be held in the intimate setting of the Myre River Room with a "club-like" atmosphere. ... more details >>

Ray Stevens
ON SALE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2010 AT 10:00 AM (CST)
with the Kentucky Opry Band
Friday, May 14, 2010 at 7:00 pm
Biography adapted from Steve Huey, All Music Guide
One of the most popular novelty artists of all time, Ray Stevens has enjoyed a remarkably long career, with a stretch of charting singles -- many of them major hits -- that have spanned four decades.
Stevens has made most of his impact with original material, often based on cultural trends of the day. Yet his knack for sheer silliness translates across generations, not to mention countless compilations and special TV offers.
Stevens is a legitimately skilled singer and producer who also performs straight country and pop, scoring the occasional serious hit. But in general, comic novelty songs are his bread and butter, and his brand of humor somehow manages to endure seismic shifts in popular taste and style. ... more details >>
